Univerisity College of Engineering, BIT Campus, Anna University Tiruchirappalli-620 024 is one among the Technical Institutions recently merged with Anna University by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Tiruchirappalli - a city known as Rock Fort city, with rich cultural heritage and home to many reputed educational institutions. The University has been established with a view to impart quality student centered technical education, so as to produce proven technocrats and to strive hard for continuous development and improvement in learning, research and developmental activities. Teaching, Research and Extension services are carried through the Departments, Centers and Constituent and Affiliated colleges. The University also works towards fostering partnerships with Academic and Industry experts to provide quality education and opportunities for entrepreneurial development by providing hands-on training. BIT has carved a niche for itself in providing technical education in the disciplines that are rare of their kind in our country. Aiming at excellence the University offers PG and Research programmes in Nanoscience and Technology and UG/PG programmes in Pharmaceutical Technology, Biotechnology, Petrochemical Technology, Information Technology, Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Civil Engineering and produces competent Engineers and Technologists with knowledge in science and technology to face future challenges.


    


     BIT Central library is the knowledge centre of the institute for an academic and research activities. It has been catering to the information needs of the intellectuals and ignited minds of the institute. Library has 45971 volumes covering all major fields of Science and Engineering. The library covers an area of 748 sqm spanning the ground floor and first floor with an ample study space (180 sqm). The ground floor is Air-conditioned. The Library has the following facilities for the faculty, staffs and the students: Multimedia, Internet, Reprography and a CD-ROM collection.
The college subscribes to most of the major technical journals including American Chemical Society, Blackwell Publishing Ltd, Cambridge University Press, Elsevier, Emerald Group, IEE/IEEE, John Wiley & Sons, Professional Engineering Publishing Ltd, Nature Publishing Group, National Research Council of Canada, Sage Publications, SIAM, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Springer Science & Business Media, Taylor and Francis, Urban & Fischer Verlag journals. The total number of Print and Online journals subscribed is: 8500+. Total number of CD's is 1370 and the total seating capacity is 300.
A library committee headed by the Dean, comprising of all the Heads of Departments, and Student Representatives, meets every semester to discuss the functioning of the Library.

Ø  Mission of the Library is to make every student self reliant with good conduct and character to make India occupy a prestigious place in the country of Nations.
Ø  Acquiring and preserving records of human knowledge and creativity in both print and non-print such as those in  monographs, digital, audiovisual, online and other appropriate formats;
Ø  Providing access to these records by organizing, cataloging and indexing them;
Ø  Assisting and instructing users of the Library through orientations, formal lectures or one-on-one interaction in order to help them in the retrieval of these records and those held by other libraries and databases throughout the world;
Ø  Providing maximum, effective and fast retrieval of information through the computerization of the library services and operations;
Ø  Sharing of these resources with a community of researchers and scholars.
