How to make your resume more complete

Many young careerists - even those with a couple internships under their belt - feel as though their resume and LinkedIn profiles are, for lack of a better word… lacking. Here are some examples to make your resume more complete and ... less lacking.

Social media savviness

No. You aren't a guru, ninja or an expert. But you do know your way around Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Pinterest. Throw in your knowledge of Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, Twitter Chats, LinkedIn Groups, Facebook ads and you just might impress the social media novice whose organisation needs social help.

Self-learning

In today's job market, there isn't a single employer who doesn't respect someone who took it upon themselves to learn a skill, or master a software programme relevant to their organisation.

Demonstration of expertise using project management, photoshop, salesforce, infusionsoft, Google analytics - and maybe even a little coding - can take your resume from "meh" to "marvelous".

Freelance projects

Remember that project you did for the business near your campus? Or the couple of weeks you spent at that non-profit solving its biggest problem? Those mini-projects were real experience. List every relevant project you've ever taken on.

Theses, studies and white papers

Did you head up a research project? Write an industry relevant thesis? Did you lead an on-campus study? Each of these projects shows attention to detail, problem solving and analytical thinking - three skills in high demand by nearly every employer.

Content creation

Have you begun blogging? Guest blogging? Have you begun to show your subject matter expertise in a podcast, or a video blog? May be a YouTube channel? Employers will respect that you are willing to let your thoughts be known, and aren't afraid to stick your neck out.

Industry relevant competitions

Speaking of not being afraid to stick your neck out: relevant competitions - online, through your community, industry associations, the local chamber of commerce, and your fraternity or sorority - are a great way to punch up your resume.

Anything leadership

On-campus clubs, volunteer assignments, part-time retail jobs, heading up a fund-raiser or a committee, campus ambassadorships… anything that shows you were leading from front must go on your resume.

Reverse mentorship

All that social media and blogging experience you've obtained… ever put it to good use? Ever walk a CEO through a Twitter chat? Or set up a WordPress blog for a solopreneur? Each of these instances of reverse mentorship shows you are willing to give back and teach across generational boundaries- a marketable skill in today's workforce.

Remove bonus from your resume

Unless you are going into a field where these things still matter (medical, engineering), you are going to get rid of everything that makes you look like a current or recent student. Everything! GPA, relevant coursework, expected graduation dates - all of it. Why? Because no one hires students. They hire capable, work-ready young professionals.

அரசுப் பணிக்கான விண்ணப்பங்களில் அரசு பதிவுபெற்ற கெசட்டட் அதிகாரி அல்லது நோட்டரி பப்ளிக் ஆகியோரிடம் சான்றொப்பம் பெற வேண்டும் என்ற நடைமுறை இருந்தது. இது மாணவர்கள் முதல் வேலை தேடும் இளைஞர்கள் வரை அனைத்து தரப்பினருக்கும் கடும் சிரமமாக இருந்தது.

கடைசி தேதிக்குள் விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள் விண்ணப் பிக்க முடிவதில்லை. அத்துடன், அரசு அலுவலகங்களில் தேவையின்றி விண்ணப்பங்கள் குவிவதை தடுக்கவும், எளிய நடைமுறைகளை பின்பற்றும் நோக்கிலும், இனிமேல் விண்ணப்பிக்கும் நபரே தனது விண்ணப்பத்தில் சான்றொப்ப கையெழுத்தை போட்டுக்கொள்ள தமிழக அரசு அனுமதி அளித்துள்ளது. நேர்முகத் தேர்வுக்கு வரும்போது மட்டும் அசல் சான்றிதழை சமர்ப்பித்தால் போதும்.

You stop growing when you stop learning: CTS Vice Chairman

In today’s competitive atmosphere students should come out with new thoughts and ideas; this can be generated only through constant learning. The student community should think big and have the confidence to accomplish their goals, speakers at “Techno Dhin” said on Friday.

 Speaking at the programme organised by the Oxford Engineering College here, Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice Chairman, Cognizant Technology Solutions, laid emphasis on constant learning. “If you stop learning you stop growing and become obsolete”, he said addressing the engineering students of the institution. New thoughts and ideas would generate only through constant learning, he said adding that people who excelled had learnt every day. He exhorted the students to give their best and excel in their career path.

Ms.Hema Gopal, Vice President, Tata Consultancy Services, Chennai, said discipline was the key to success. Irrespective of the medium of instruction, students should think big and constantly upgrade themselves to excel in their career, she said. She called upon the students to be strong in their fundamentals, learn beyond their academics, and improve their analytical abilities. The French connect

The Embassy of France in India and Campus France India (the French national agency for higher studies in France) has announced the 2014 Autumn Admission Tour in India.

This event will allow Indian students to meet with more than 20 top French B-Schools and Engineering schools in 3 metro-cities across India: Chennai (October 14), Bangalore (October 16) and Ahmedabad (October 18).

Students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with recruitment officers from top French institutions and listen to Indian alumni speak about their study experience and visa officers from the French Consulate, about visa application guidelines.

மொழிகள் பல அறிந்தால் கூடும் வேலைவாய்ப்பு

“யாமறிந்த மொழிகளிலே” என்று தொடங்கித் தமிழின் புகழ் பாடிய பாரதிக்குப் பதினெட்டு மொழிகள் தெரிந்திருந்தன. அதனால் அவன் தமிழ் பற்றிச் சொன்ன கருத்து அவ்வளவு வலுவாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. சுந்தரத் தெலுங்கு மட்டுமல்லாமல் அவன் கற்ற திராவிட, ஆரிய, ஐரோப்பிய மொழிகள் அவன் சிந்தைக்குச் சத்து சேர்த்திருந்தது.

எனக்கும் மொழிகள் மீது காதல் உண்டு. ஆனால் பிற மொழித்தேர்ச்சி சொல்லிக்கொள்ளும் அளவு இல்லை. பள்ளியில் படித்த ராஷ்ட்டிர பாஷா இந்தி எழுதப் படிக்க உதவியது. பேசும் வாய்ப்பு கிட்டாததால் இன்றும் தீபிகா படுகோனை ரசிக்கும் அளவுதான் வளர்ந்துள்ளது.

பள்ளியில் சமஸ்கிருதமும் கல்லூரியில் பிரெஞ்சும் படித்தது மொழி ஆசையில் அல்ல. அதிக மதிப்பெண்கள் பெறும் ஆசையில். கமல்ஹாசன் படங்களிலிருந்த கவனம், படிப்பில் இல்லாத காலம் அது. தேர்வில் தேறியதே புண்ணியம் என்ற நிலையில், கடைசியில் தமிழைத் தவறவிட்ட குற்ற உணர்வுதான் மிஞ்சியது.

பிறகு மிருணாள் சென்னின் படம் பார்த்து ‘முப்பது நாளில் வங்காளப் பாஷை’ வாங்கினேன்.

பெங்களூர் நிம்ஹான்சில் பணி நிமித்தம் காரணமாகக் கன்னடம் சைக்கோதெரபி செய்யும் அளவிற்குச் சரளமாய் வந்தது. பின் நான் வசித்த எந்த ஊரிலும் கன்னடம் பிரமாதமாய் இல்லாததால் அதுவும் பலவீனப்பட்டு சில வார்த்தைகள் சரியான நேரத்தில் “சிக்குவதே இல்லா”. இப்படிப் பல மொழிகள் கற்கும் வாய்ப்பு இருந்தும் அதைப் பயன்படுத்தாத ஆதங்கம் எனக்கு உண்டு.

ஜப்பானியக் கம்பெனிகள்

சென்னை மாமல்லபுரம் பகுதிக்கு அருகே பல ஜப்பானியக் கம்பெனிகள் கால் பதிக்க உள்ளன. ஏற்கனவே திருபெரும்புதூர் கொரிய கம்பெனிகளின் ஆதிக்கத்தில் உள்ளது. இது தவிரச் சில ஜெர்மானியக் கம்பனிகளும் ஒரகடம் பகுதியில் எட்டிப் பார்க்கும் நிலையில் அந்நிய மொழிகள் அறிதல் வேலை வாய்ப்பில் ஒரு கூடுதல் தகுதி.

சீனா, லத்தீன் அமெரிக்கா, ரஷ்யா, ஆப்பிரிக்கா போன்ற நாடுகள் வளர்ச்சியின் பாதையில் உள்ளன. அவர்களின் மொழியை அறிதல் அந்த நாடுகளுக்கு நீங்கள் புலம் பெயர உதவும்.

மொழிபெயர்ப் பாளர்களுக்கும் என்றும் பெரிய கிராக்கி உண்டு. டெல்லியில் என் நண்பர் ஒருவர் அந்த அயல் நாட்டுத் தூதரகத்தில் மொழி பெயர்ப்பு பணியில் ஈடுபட்டுப் பெரும் வருமானம் ஈட்டி வருகிறார்.

இன்று சில பொறியியல் கல்லூரிகள் ஜப்பானிய மொழி வகுப்புகள் நடத்துவது உற்பத்தித்துறை, தொழில் நுட்பத்துறை என இரு பெரும் துறைகளில் உள்ள வாய்ப்புகளால்தான்.

அதே போல மும்பையில் பிழைக்க இந்தி கட்டாயம் தேவை.

தாய்மொழி ஆதாரம்

மொழியைக் கற்றுக் கொள்ள ஆர்வம், திறன், வாய்ப்பு மூன்றும் அவசியம். பல மொழிகள் அறிதல் நம் எண்ணங்களைச் செழுமைப்படுத்தும். பல புதிய சாளரங்களை அது நமக்குத் திறந்து விடும். எதிர்பாராத சில வாய்ப்புகளையும் கொண்டு வந்து கொட்டும்.

தாய்மொழி தமிழ் நம் ஆதாரம். அதை பயில்வது அவசியம். அதன் பின்னர், பிற மொழிகள் ஆசைக்கு, வேலை வாய்ப்புக்குக் கற்றல் நலம்.

ஒரு மனிதக் கூட்டத்தின் அடையாளம் மொழி. பிற மொழிகள் அறிதல் பிற மனிதக் கூட்டத்தை அறியும் முயற்சிகள்.

ஏனோ மொழிப்பாடங்கள் என்றால் கிள்ளுக்கீரையாக நினைக்கும் மனோபாவத்தை இன்றைய கல்வி நிலையங்கள் வளர்த்து வருகின்றன. “மற்றப் பாடங்கள் படித்தால் உருப்படலாம்; மொழிகள் படித்தால் எந்தப் பயனும் இல்லை” என்பதுதான் பள்ளிகளின் நிலைப்பாடு.

கட் ஆஃப்

ஒரு பிரீயட் கட் பண்ண வேண்டுமானால், முதல் பலி உடற்பயிற்சிக் கல்வி. அடுத்த பலி மொழிப்பாடம். மொழிப்பாடம் இசையும் நடனமும் போல விருப்பப்பட்டால் படிக்கும் விஷயமாகத் தான் பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

மொழிப்பாடங்களை வாழ வைக்க நம் அரசாங்கம் ஒன்றை மட்டும் செய்தால் போதும். கட் ஆஃபிற்கு மொழிப் பாடங்களில் வாங்கும் மதிப்பெண்களைக் கணக்கில் கொள்ள வேண்டும். பிறகு தானாக மரியாதை கிடைக்கும்.

அதே போல எந்தத் தொழில் கல்வியானாலும் இரண்டு மொழிகள் படித்தல் கட்டாயமாக்க வேண்டும். காலம் போன காலத்தில் கம்யூனிகேஷன் கிளாஸ் எடுக்கும் அவசியம் இருக்காது.

மொழி ஆசிரியர்களுக்கான மரியாதை மொழிகள் மீதான மரியாதையாக மாறும். கணக்கும் அறிவியலும் நடத்தும் ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு இணையான மரியாதை மொழிப்பாடங்கள் நடத்தும் ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்பட வேண்டும்.

அடுக்கு

கணக்கும் அறிவியலும் மேல் தட்டிலும், அடுத்த தட்டில் சமூகப் பாடங்களும், கீழ் தட்டில் மொழியையும் இசையையும் நடனத்தையும் வைக்கும் நம் கல்வி அமைப்பு ஒரு சாதி அடுக்கை மறைமுகமாக உருவாக்குகிறது.

இன்று நம் பிள்ளைகள் ஒன்றரை மொழி (முக்கால் ஆங்கிலம், அரைத் தாய்மொழி) அறிந்து வளர்வது வேதனையாக உள்ளது.

எந்தக் கூட்டத்திலும் உங்களைத் தனித்துக் காண்பிக்க முக்கியக் காரணம் உங்கள் மொழி. பேச்சில், எழுத்தில் திறமையானவர்கள் எல்லா வேலை சார்ந்த தேர்வுகளிலும் முன்னுரிமை பெறுகிறார்கள். இது தெரிந்தும் நம் குடும்ப அமைப்போ கல்வி அமைப்போ அதற்கான முறையான அங்கீகாரம் வழங்குவதில்லை.

மொழிப் பயணம்

மொழியைச் சுத்தமாகக் கற்று, தேர்ச்சி பெற்று, தவறில்லாமல் பயன்படுத்துவது உங்களின் சுய மதிப்பைக் கூட்டும்.

தாய் மொழி, ஆங்கிலம், பிற இந்திய மொழி ஒன்று, பிற உலக மொழி ஒன்று என்று பயணம் செய்யுங்களேன். தொழிலுக்கும் பயன்படும். வாழ்க்கையும் ருசிக்கும்.

நான் என் இழந்த வாய்ப்புகளை ஈடு செய்யும் விதமாய் மீண்டும் இந்தி பேச ஆரம்பித்திருக்கிறேன். என் மகள் என் இந்திக்குப் பயந்தே என்னிடம் பேச யோசிக்கிறாள் என்பது வேறு சேதி!

Find the Fund

Want to study abroad but concerned about how to finance your education? Here are a few awards that can aid you in your pursuit of a degree in some countries.

Studying abroad is an expensive proposition, but some financial support can ease your cost burden — completely, if you bag an all-expenses-paid scholarship. You can find a host of full or partial scholarships and fellowships for different levels of study, from various governments (including Indian), universities, trusts, companies and other organisations. A good point to start your search for funds is the website of the embassy/high commission or the education promotion agency of the country you wish to study in or of the institution you intend to attend. Here is a small slice of numerous awards for international students in different parts of the world:

>>UNITED STATES

Fulbright-Nehru fellowships: These include a broad range of awards like the Master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships among others. The fellowship benefits include J-1 visa support, round-trip economy class air travel from the fellow’s home city to the host institution, fees, living and related costs. However, sometimes the fellowship may not cover the entire costs and the awardee may have to supplement grant benefits through other resources.

Rotary scholarship: Rotary offers fully-funded academic fellowships to study at its peace centres in different parts of the world, including the US. These cover tuition and other fees, room and board, round-trip transportation and all internship/field study expenses. The fellowships are for short-term courses as well as full-time Master’s lasting for 15-24 months with a practical

internship.

Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation scholarships: Meant for postgraduate (PG) level study in the US and in Europe, the scholarship pays for tuition fees, living expenses and one-way travel for a specified period. In the case of specific programmes, the financial coverage would be discussed directly with the candidate.

 

>>UNITED KINGDOM

Commonwealth scholarship and fellowship plan: The scholarships are for PhD programmes of up to three years’ duration (one year for a split PhD), one-year taught Master’s and six months of clinical training. These are for engineering and technology, science (pure and applied), agriculture, social sciences and the humanities. Winners receive funding for economy, return international travel, tuition fee and maintenance and other allowances. The fellowships are for postdoctoral study. 

GREAT scholarships: GREAT provides 370 scholarships worth about Rs 100 million to Indian students in 260 undergraduate (UG) and PG courses at 36 UK institutions. The award value varies from institute to institute. 

lGates Cambridge scholarships: This covers the full cost of studying for a full-time PG degree in any subject at Cambridge. Apart from the airfare, visa costs and tuition fee, students receive a maintenance allowance. They may apply for discretionary grants like family allowance, academic development funding, among others, as well.

Rhodes scholarships India: Funding PG study at Oxford, this award provides for all fees, a personal stipend, private health insurance and

airfare costs.

>>EUROPEAN UNION

Erasmus+ scholarships: These are fully funded and cover all costs including travel, living, insurance and visa. Under Erasmus+, India is a partner country, permitting Indian universities to link up with their European counterparts to become a member in a consortium.

>>AUSTRALIA

Australia awards: Funded by the Australian government, these international scholarships and fellowships offer the next generation of global leaders an opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development. 

International postgraduate research scholarships (IPRS): These scholarships are aimed at international students to pursue a PG research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers.

Joint academic scholarships online network (JASON): Developed jointly by a number of universities, it is meant to assist PG aspirants find information regarding funding opportunities through various scholarship programmes run through universities, charitable foundations, government and private institutions

 

>>NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand India sports scholarships: These were recently launched for Indian students intending to study Bachelor’s degrees, graduate diplomas or PG sports-related programmes at New Zealand universities, institutes of technology and polytechnics in 2015.

A New Zealand government funding scheme means that all international PhD students accepted for enrolment in New Zealand pay a substantially reduced tuition fee.

SCHOLAR TALK

Since a PhD in the US usually takes more time than that in Europe, I was looking for an award that would give me the academic space and financial support to undertake my research uninterruptedly. Newly built and eager to provide a structural foundation for research on India, the Ireland India Institute (III) seemed perfect. My preference for this award came from this and the 100% scholarship and stipend offered to me. The fellowship covers tuition fees, a stipend of 16,000 euros a year, and an annual travel grant of 500 euros, for four years. With funds in the humanities and social science research drying up in Europe as well as the US, it seemed like a good opportunity. Based on my experience, I suggest potential applicants prepare their proposals very well for the interview.

I received a lump sum of 25,000 new Taiwanese dollar (roughly Rs 50,000) a month. I used the scholarship to pay me fees and cover my living costs. This amount is sufficient to survive in Taiwan. I even managed to buy myself a round trip ticket every year to come home and still saved some money. I discovered the scholarship through my mother who was, at the time, pursuing her research on the country. Following my BBA, I took an MBA at another Taiwanese university where I received an institutional scholarship. The selection process involved initial screening and an interview, with the number of awardees being flexible every year.

A good profile, including academic records, extra-curricular activities, research papers, and work experience, helps a Fulbright fellowship applicant. GRE and TOEFL scores matter but the profile matters the most. It takes around a year to secure the fellowship, so be patient. Write your statement of purpose carefully and honestly. Get references written not by big shots but by those who know you and can describe the best in you. Be yourself in the interview.

கல்வித் தகுதி: அறிவிக்கையில் வெளியான அட்டவணையில் உள்ள பணிகளுக்கு உரிய கல்வித் தகுதியை பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும். அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட கல்வி நிறுவனத்தில் இன்ஜினீயரிங்கில் பட்டயப் படிப்போ, பட்டப் படிப்போ பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும். கல்வித் தகுதி குறித்த முழு விவரங்களும் அறிவிக்கையில் வெளியாகியுள்ளது.

விண்ணப்பக் கட்டணம்: எஸ்சி, எஸ்டி, மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள், பெண்கள். சிறுபான்மையினர், பொருளாதார ரீதியாகப் பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர் அதாவது ரூ.50,000க்கு குறைவான ஆண்டுவருமானம் கொண்டோர் ஆகியோர் விண்ணப்பக் கட்டணம் செலுத்த வேண்டியதில்லை. பிறர் விண்ணப்பக் கட்டணமாக ரூ.100 செலுத்த வேண்டும். இதை ஆன்லைன் பேங்கிங் மூலமாகவோ வங்கி செலான் மூலமாகவோ அஞ்சலகத்திலோ செலுத்தலாம்.

தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படும் முறை: எழுத்துத் தேர்வு, சான்றிதழ்கள் சரிபார்ப்பு ஆகியவற்றின் அடிப்படையில் விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுவார்கள். ஜூனியர் இன்ஜினீயர் பணிகளுக்கு எழுத்துத் தேர்வு 14.12.2014 அன்றும் சீனியர் செக்‌ஷன் இன்ஜினீயர் பணிகளுக்கு எழுத்துத் தேர்வு 21.12.2014 அன்றும் நடைபெறும்.

விண்ணப்பிக்கும் முறை: உரிய தகுதியுடையோர் ஜூனியர் இன்ஜினீயர் பணிகளுக்கோ சீனியர் செக்‌ஷன் இன்ஜினீயர் பணிகளுக்கோ ஏதாவது ஒரு ஆர்ஆர்பி இணையதளத்தில் (http://www.rrbald.gov.in/ ) ஆன்லைனில் விண்ணப்பிக்க வேண்டும். விண்ணப்பித்த பின்னர் பிரிண்ட் அவுட்டை ஆர்ஆர்பி அலுவலகத்திற்கு அனுப்ப வேண்டியதில்லை. எழுத்துத்தேர்வுக்கான ஹால்டிக்கெட்டை ஆல்லைனில் பதிவிறக்கம் செய்து கொள்ளலாம்.

மருத்துவம், பொறியியல் ஆகிய பாடப்பிரிவுகளில் இளநிலைப் பட்டப் படிப்பு படிக்கும் மாணவர்களுக்கும் மேனேஜ்மெண்ட், ஜியாலஜி, ஜியோ பிசிக்ஸ் பாடங்களில் முதுநிலைப் பட்டப் படிப்பு படிக்கும் மாணவர்களுக்கும் மத்தியஅரசு நிறுவனமான ஓஎன்ஜிசி நிறுவனம் கல்வி உதவித்தொகை வழங்குகிறது.

 

மருத்துவம், பொறியியல் ஆகிய பாடப்பிரிவுகளில் இளநிலைப் பட்டப் படிப்பு படிக்கும் மாணவர்களுக்கும் மேனேஜ்மெண்ட், ஜியாலஜி, ஜியோ பிசிக்ஸ் பாடங்களில் முதுநிலைப் பட்டப் படிப்பு படிக்கும் மாணவர்களுக்கும் ஆயில் அண்ட் நேச்சுரல் கேஸ் கார்ப்பரேஷன் (ஓஎன்ஜிசி) மாதம் ரூ. 4 ஆயிரம் வீதம் உதவித்தொகை வழங்குகிறது.

 

அதாவது, மொத்தம் 500 மாணவ, மாணவியருக்கு ஆண்டுக்கு ரூ.48 ஆயிரம் வீதம் இந்த உதவித்தொகை வழங்கப்படும். இந்த உதவித்தொகை பெற தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுபவர்களில் 50 சதவீதம் பேர் மாணவிகள். தமிழ்நாடு, புதுச்சேரி உள்ளிட்ட தென் மாநிலங்களைச் சேர்ந்த 100 மாணவ, மாணவிகளுக்கு இந்த உதவித்தொகை வழங்கப்படும் என்றும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

 

பி.இ., பி.டெக்., எம்.பி.பி.எஸ்., எம்.பி.ஏ., எம்.எஸ்சி. - ஜியாலஜி, ஜியோ பிசிக்ஸ் ஆகிய படிப்புகளில் முதலாம் ஆண்டு படிக்கும் தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட, பழங்குடியின மாணவர்கள் அனைவரும் இந்த உதவித்தொகை கோரி விண்ணப்பிக்கலாம். தொலைநிலைக் கல்வி மூலம் பயிலும் மாணவர்கள் இந்த உதவித்தொகை கோரி விண்ணப்பிக்க முடியாது.

 

பி.இ., பி.டெக்., எம்.பி.பி.எஸ். ஆகிய பட்டப் படிப்புகளில் முதலாமாண்டு பயிலும் மாணவர்கள், தங்களது பிளஸ் டூ தேர்வில் குறைந்தபட்சம் 60 சதவீதம் எடுத்து தேர்ச்சி பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும். 

 

எம்.எஸ்சி. - ஜியாலஜி, ஜியோபிசிக்ஸ், எம்.பி.ஏ., ஆகிய முதுநிலை படிப்புகளில் முதலாமாண்டு பயிலும் மாணவர்கள் தங்களது இளநிலை பட்டப்படிப்பில் குறைந்தபட்சம் 60 சதவீத மதிப்பெண்களுடன் தேர்ச்சி பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும்.

 

இந்த உதவித்தொகை கோரி விண்ணப்பிக்கும் மாணவர்களின் பெற்றோர் வருமானம் ஆண்டிற்கு ரூ. 4.50 லட்சத்திற்கு மேல் இருக்கக்கூடாது. 1 அக்டோபர்  2014 நிலவரப்படி உதவித்தொகை கோரி விண்ணப்பிக்கும் மாணவர்களின் வயது 30-க்குள் இருக்கவேண்டும். வேறு உதவித்தொகை பெறும் மாணவர்கள், இந்த உதவித்தொகை கோரி விண்ணப்பிக்க முடியாது.

 

மாணவர்களுடைய மதிப்பெண்களின் அடிப்படையில் தகுதியான மாணவர்கள் இந்தக் கல்வி உதவித்தொகை பெற தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுவார்கள். மாணவர்களின் கல்வித் தரத்தைக் கருத்தில்கொண்டு, அடுத்தடுத்த ஆண்டுகளில் இந்த உதவித்தொகை தொடர்ந்து வழங்கப்படும்.

மத்திய அரசு நிறுவனமான பவர் கிரிட் கார்ப்பரேஷன் ஆஃப் இந்தியா, என்ஜினீயரிங் பட்டதாரிகளுக்கு ஆண்டுக்கு  ரூ.13.95 லட்சம் சம்பளத்தில் வேலை வழங்குகிறது. இந்தப் பணியில் சேர விரும்புபவர்கள் ‘கேட்’ தேர்வை எழுத வேண்டும்.

விண்ணப்பதாரர்களுக்கான வயது வரம்பு, இந்த ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் 31-ஆம் தேதி நிலவரப்படி 28 வயதுவரை இருக்கலாம். கிரீமிலேயர் அல்லாத ஓபிசி பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களுக்கு 3 ஆண்டுகளும் தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட, பழங்குடியினருக்கு 5 ஆண்டுகளும் வயது வரம்பில் சலுகை அளிக்கப்படும். மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளுக்கு அவர்களது இடஒதுக்கீட்டுப் பிரிவுக்கு ஏற்ப வழங்கப்படும் சலுகை தவிர, கூடுதலாக வயது வரம்பில் 10 ஆண்டுகள் சலுகை வழங்கப்படும். இந்தப் பணிக்கு விண்ணப்பிக்கும் பவர் கிரிட் நிறுவனத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஊழியர்களுக்கு வயது வரம்பு இல்லை.

கேட் தேர்வில் மாணவர்கள் பெற்ற மதிப்பெண்கள் அடிப்படையில் தேர்வு செய்யப்படுபவர்களுக்கு குரூப் டிஸ்கஷன் நடத்தப்படும். அதைத் தொடர்ந்து நேர்காணல் இருக்கும். கேட் தேர்வுக்கு 85 சதவீத மதிப்பெண்களும் குரூப் டிஸ்கஷனுக்கு 3 சதவீத மதிப்பெண்களும் நேர்முகத் தேர்வுக்கு 12 மதிப்பெண்களும் என்ற அடிப்படையில் கணக்கிடப்பட்டு தகுதியுடையவர்கள் தேர்வு செய்யப்படுவார்கள். விண்ணப்பதாரர்களுக்கு மருத்துவப் பரிசோதனையும் இருக்கும். கலர் பிளைண்ட்னஸ் இருக்கக் கூடாது.

அனல் மின்நிலையங்களில் வேலை செய்ய விரும்புபவர்கள் நெய்வேலியில் உள்ள நேஷனல் பவர் டிரெயினிங் இன்ஸ்டிட்யூட்டில் ஓராண்டு போஸ்ட் டிப்ளமோ படிப்பைப் படிக்கலாம்.

விண்ணப்பக் கட்டணம் ரூ.700. மாணவர்களின் பெயர், தந்தையின் பெயர், முகவரி, தொலைபேசி எண், வயது, கல்வித் தகுதி, அனுபவம் உள்ளிட்ட விவரங்களை (விளம்பரத்தில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளபடி) தனி காகிதத்தில் எழுதி, புகைப்படத்துடன் விண்ணப்பக் கட்டணத்துக்கான டிமாண்ட் டிராப்ட்டையும் இணைத்து இம்மாதம் 29-ஆம் தேதிக்குள் கிடைக்கும்படி விண்ணப்பிக்க வேண்டும். தேவையான சான்றிதழ்களின் நகல்களுக்கு சான்றொப்பம் பெற்று விண்ணப்பத்துடன் இணைத்து அனுப்ப வேண்டியதிருக்கும்.

 

இப்படிப்புக்குக் கட்டணம் ரூ.1.35 லட்சம். அத்துடன் சேவைக் கட்டணமும் உண்டு. படிப்புக் கட்டணத்தை இரண்டு தவணைகளில் செலுத்தலாம். இப்படிப்பில் சேரும் மாணவர்களுக்கு தங்கும் விடுதி வசதியும் உண்டு. முன்னால் வருபவர்களுக்கு முன்னுரிமை என்ற அடிப்படையில் விடுதியில் இடம் ஒதுக்கீடு செய்யப்படும்.

சிவில் சர்வீஸ் தேர்வு எழுதும் மாணவர்களுக்கு சென்னை கிரீன்வேஸ் சாலையிலுள்ள அண்ணா மேலாண்மை நிலையத்தின்கீழ் இயங்கும் அகில இந்திய குடிமைப் பணிகள் தேர்வு பயிற்சி மையம், இலவசப் பயிற்சியை அளித்து வருகிறது. இங்கு இலவசப் பயிற்சி பெறும் மாணவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை இந்த ஆண்டு முதல் 200-லிருந்து 225 ஆக அதிகரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதாவது, ஆதி திராவிடர் பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களுக்கு 92 இடங்களும், அருந்ததியருக்கு 18 இடங்களும், பழங்குடியினருக்கு 3 இடங்களும், மிகவும் பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர் மற்றும் சீர்மரபினருக்கு 40 இடங்களும், பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோருக்கு 54 இடங்களும், பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர் (முஸ்லிம்) பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களுக்கு 7 இடங்களும், மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கு 7 இடங்களும், பொதுப் பிரிவினருக்கு 4 இடங்களும் ஒதுக்கீடு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன.

முழு நேரப் பயிற்சியில் சேரும் மாணவர்களுக்கு இலவச தங்கும் விடுதி வசதியும் செய்து தரப்படுகிறது. பெண்களுக்கென தனி விடுதி வசதியும் உண்டு. தரமான, அனுபவம் வாய்ந்த ஆசிரியர்கள், 21 ஆயிரம் புத்தகங்கள் கொண்ட நூலகம், 24 மணி நேரம் இணையதள வசதி, நேர்த்தியான வகுப்பறை... இப்படி மாணவர்களுக்கேற்ற பல்வேறு வசதிகள் இங்கு உள்ளன. அத்துடன், சிவில் சர்வீஸ் தேர்வில் வெற்றி பெற்றவர்களின் வழிகாட்டுதல்கள், தன்முனைப்புப் பயிற்சிகள், ஊக்குவிப்புப் பயிற்சிகள், பாடவாரியான பயிற்சிகள், குழு விவாதம்... இப்படி மாணவர்களுக்கு சிறப்பான பயிற்சிகள் அளிக்கப்படுகின்றன.

இங்கு பயிற்சி பெற விரும்புவோர் தமிழ்நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த மாணவராக இருக்க வேண்டும். பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் ஏதேனும் ஒரு பட்டப்படிப்பை முடித்திருக்க வேண்டும். 1.8.2015 நிலவரப்படி விண்ணப்பதாரர், குறைந்தபட்சம் 21 வயது ஆனவராக இருக்க வேண்டும். அதிகபட்சமாக 32 வயதுக்குள் இருக்க வேண்டும். ஆதிதிராவிடர், அருந்ததியர் மற்றும் பழங்குடியினருக்கு 5 ஆண்டுகளும், பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர், பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர்-முஸ்லிம், மிகவும் பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர் மற்றும் சீர்மரபினர் பிரிவுகளைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களுக்கு 3 ஆண்டுகளும், மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளுக்கு 10 ஆண்டுகளும் வயது வரம்பில் விலக்கு அளிக்கப்படும்.

முழுநேரப் பயிற்சியில் சேர தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுபவர்களுக்கு உணவு கட்டணம், தங்கும் விடுதிக் கட்டணம், படிப்புக் கட்டணம் எதுவும் இல்லை. ஆனால், இப்பயிற்சியில் சேரத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படும் பொதுப்பிரிவினர் மட்டும் ஆயிரம் ரூபாய் கட்டணம் செலுத்த வேண்டும். அனைத்துப் பிரிவினரும் நூலக காப்புக் கட்டணமாக ரூ. 3 ஆயிரம் செலுத்த வேண்டும். பயிற்சியின் முடிவில் இந்த காப்புக் கட்டணம் திருப்பி தரப்படும். முதன்மைத் தேர்வுக்கு தகுதி பெறும் மாணவருக்களுக்கு மாதம் 3 ஆயிரம் ரூபாய் வீதம் மூன்று மாதங்களுக்கும், நேர்காணல் தேர்வுக்கு தகுதி பெறுபவர்களுக்கு 2 ஆயிரம் ரூபாயும் அரசால் வழங்கப்படும்.

இங்கு பகுதி நேரப் பயிற்சி பெறுவதற்கு 100 மாணவர்கள் சேர்க்கப்படுகிறார்கள். இப்பயிற்சி பெறுவதற்கு பயிற்சிக் கட்டணமாக ரூ.3 ஆயிரம் செலுத்த வேண்டும். நூலகக் காப்புத்தொகையாக ரூ. 3 ஆயிரம் செலுத்த வேண்டும். இந்தத் தொகை பயிற்சியின் முடிவில் திருப்பித் தரப்படும். பகுதி நேரப் பயிற்சி வகுப்புகளில் சேருவோருக்கு, வாராந்திர நாட்களில் மாலை 6.30 மணி முதல் இரவு 8.30 மணி வரையிலும், சனி மற்றும் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமைகளிலும் முழு நேரமாகவும் பயிற்சி அளிக்கப்படும். இவர்களுக்கு உணவு, தங்கும் விடுதி வசதி வழங்கப்பட மாட்டாது.

முழு நேரப் பயிற்சியிலும், பகுதி நேரப் பயிற்சியிலும் சேர விரும்பும் மாணவர்கள் அகில இந்திய குடிமைப் பணித் தேர்வுப் பயிற்சி மையம் நடத்தும் நுழைவுத் தேர்வை எழுத வேண்டும். இந்த நுழைவுத் தேர்வு நவம்பர் 23-ஆம் தேதி காலை 10.30 மணிக்கு நடைபெறுகிறது. சென்னை, திருச்சி, மதுரை, கோயம்புத்தூர், திருநெல்வேலி, சேலம், வேலூர், விழுப்புரம், கடலூர், தஞ்சாவூர், தர்மபுரி, சிவகங்கை ஆகிய ஊர்களில் இத்தேர்வை எழுதலாம். இந்த இரண்டு மணி நேரத் தேர்வில் அப்ஜெக்டிவ் முறையில் கேள்விகள் கேட்கப்படும். இந்திய வரலாறு மற்றும் தேசிய இயக்கம், இந்திய மற்றும் உலகப் புவியியல், இந்திய அரசியலமைப்பு மற்றும் நிர்வாக முறை, பொருளாதாரம் மற்றும் சமூக வளர்ச்சி, பொது அறிவியல், நடப்பு நிகழ்வுகள், சுற்றுப்புறச் சூழ்நிலை தொடர்பான பொதுவிவாதங்கள், பருவநிலை மாற்றங்கள் மற்றும் உயிரினப் பரிணாம வளர்ச்சி, அடிப்படை எண் அறிவு, பகுத்தறியும் திறன், பொதுப்புத்திக் கூர்மை மற்றும் புரிந்துகொள்ளும் திறன் ஆகியவற்றிலிருந்து, கேள்விகள் கேட்கப்படும்.

ஆங்கில மொழியில் 100 கேள்விகளைக் கொண்ட இந்த நுழைவுத் தேர்வுக்கு மொத்தம் 200 மதிப்பெண்கள். நுழைவுத் தேர்வுக்கான மாதிரி வினாத்தாள் குறித்த விவரங்கள் இணையதளத்தில் கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

இத்தேர்வு எழுத விரும்பும் விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள், அலுவலக வேலை நாட்களில் (காலை 10.30 மணி முதல் மாலை 5.30 மணி வரை) தங்களது ஜாதி, வயது மற்றும் பட்டப்படிப்புச் சான்றுகளின் நகல்களை சம்பந்தப்பட்ட மாவட்ட ஆட்சித் தலைவரின் அலுவலகத்தில் உள்ள மாவட்ட பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர் மற்றும் சிறுபான்மையினர் நல அலுவலகத்தில் சமர்ப்பித்து, உரிய விண்ணப்பங்களைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளலாம். பூர்த்தி செய்யப்பட்ட விண்ணப்பங்கள் மாவட்ட பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டோர் மற்றும் சிறுபான்மையினர் நல அலுவலர்களிடமே சமர்ப்பிக்கப்பட வேண்டும். சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த விண்ணப்பதாரர்கள் மட்டும் சென்னையில் உள்ள பயிற்சி மைய வளாகத்தில் பூர்த்தி செய்யப்பட்ட விண்ணப்பத்தை சமர்ப்பிக்க வேண்டும்.

I was born and brought up in Chennai and since my school days, I have been passionate about vehicles. I reckon it was because my father and grandfather worked in similar fields. I wanted to pursue my passion academically, which is why I chose Automotive Engineering at Anna University, Tiruchy. It was a tough decision, as very few female candidates opted for the course. I was inducted into the wonderful world of automotives during my graduation days and, chasing my dreams, I ended up getting a university rank. The proudest moment for me was when I won a Concept Car Challenge at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchy; it instilled the faith in me that this was indeed the path for me. After an internship at Renault-Nissan that gave me much-needed industry exposure, I knew that I had found my calling. To cement my knowledge and widen the scope of opportunities, I chose to specialise in the field with an MSc.

The next step was choosing a university that complied with my course requirements; United Kingdom seemed like a good choice after rummaging through several websites and prospectuses. Loughborough University seemed like a promising option due to its state-of-the-art facilities, excellent faculty and repute in the Automotive Engineering faculties. More than the rankings, the University has good student reviews and was recently voted the best in student experience by Times Higher Education for six years in a row. The modules and course content surpassed my expectations. I was interested in hybrid vehicles and had planned to study more on the lines of Electrical Engineering for the same. Being in a University town that hosts a lot of institutes, it offered a good chance to experience student life. It’s been over 10 months now and I admit the student life experience here has been the best!

Loughborough University is the best choice for anyone looking to pursue Engineering. As an Automotive Systems Engineering student, I had the opportunity to attend many guest lectures by professionals from Jaguar Land Rover. These lectures were a reality check and showed us the industry workings beyond what was taught in books.

The course content is designed to mimic actual industrial work and students had the freedom to choose their modules and research topics. I think this is what sets Loughborough University apart from others. Through the course I have realised the importance of industrial exposure and will be working full time, after the course to enhance that knowledge.

However, my long-term goal is to research about vehicles of the future and pursue a doctorate investigating the technologies that hold the key to the current energy crisis.

The University has a vibrant atmosphere and is a melting pot of various cultures. One of the best assets of Loughborough University is the warm welcome it extends to its freshers. When I landed in the UK, there were people ready to welcome us at Heathrow Airport; the whole University was buzzing with activities in the initial weeks, people were interacting with each other and so on.

During the first few days, the various student societies hosted ice breaking sessions for freshers. They made me feel right at home and I was sure that I had chosen the right place to study. The University is also famous for its sports facilities. Every night the students’ union is abuzz with people. Like they say, work while you work and play while you play. The Union hosts regular events throughout the semester.

Located in the midlands of England, Loughborough enjoys good weather for most part of the year. And for homesick Indian students, Leicester (a town with a large Indian population, which has several Indian eateries) is close by and one can enjoy the thrill of being abroad without spending as much.
